러시아 고전음악의 아버지로 간주되는 글린카의 이 곡은 그의
친구였던 쿠콜니크(Nestor Kukolnik)의 시를 인용해서 만든
가곡집 '상트 페테르부르크의 이별'의 제 10번 곡으로, 이 
가곡집에서 글린카는 자장가, 뱃노래, 발라드 등 다양한 
곡을 사용하여 이국의 정서와 여행자의 심정을 경쾌하
면서도 아름다운 선율로 정갈하게 표현하였다.
